93 point Vinous Media

The 2020 Lilian Ladouys is a real charmer, just as it was from barrel. Silky, aromatic and nuanced, Lilian Ladouys presents a profile redolent of red fruit, cedar, spice and crushed flowers. This mid-weight Saint-Estèphe is just gorgeous.

  • Appellation: Saint-Estèphe, Bordeaux, France
  • Classification: Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel
  • Grape Varietals: Merlot (approx. 59%), Cabernet Sauvignon (approx. 37%), Petit Verdot (approx. 3%), Cabernet Franc (approx. 1%)
  • Terroir: Clay-heavy gravel soils with limestone bedrock.
  • Vinification: Hand-harvested, sorted by hand, gravity-fed tanks, long maceration, aged in oak barrels (30-40% new) for ~14-15 months.
  • Alcohol: ~13.5-13.73% vol.
Our Tasting Note: Deep ruby red, vibrant edges. Pronounced, primary dark red to black fruits (bing cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant), subtle toast spices, with hints of cedar, chocolate, and purple florals. The palate is supple, generous, and fresh, medium bodied. Medium grain fine tannins. Pronounced flavors and good density lead to very good depth and length. A fun and delicious Saint-Estèphe, this shows the classic richness of the appellation. Drink now or hold, excellent aging potential and value.
