Comando G La Breña 1er Cru 2023

Comando G La Breña 1er Cru 2023

97+ pts Wine Advocate

Drink Date: 2026 - 2036
The 2023 La Breña has the Chambolle character of Villanueva de Ávila, peachy, velvety and intoxicating. This is selected from a specific part of the vineyard and aged in a 500-liter barrel. It's aromatic, perfumed and elegant, quite in line with the La Brea 1er from this same vintage. It has some fine-grained tannins that give it some grip and suggest that the wine needs a little bit of time in bottle. Only 485 bottles produced. They were filled in April 2025.

Overview: La Breña is a 0.5-hectare parcel of Garnacha a short distance northeast of Rumbo al Norte. Similar to El Reventon, which they sold in 2023, there is a subtle change in the soils of La Breña, which in certain vintages makes a fleshier and more aromatic expression of Garnacha. In more abundant vintages, La Breña 1er cru is made from this part of the paraje blended with some newer vineyards planted nearby. As such, it occupies the place between the paraje wine, La Breña, and the village wine, Navatalgordo. This cuvée isn’t made every vintage, and over time, it may disappear entirely.
