Domaine Larue Murgers des Dents de Chien 2023
Murgers Des Dents De Chien 1er 2023
Domaine Larue
Saint-Aubin, Burgundy, France
Saint-Aubin is one of the Cote d'Or's satellite appellations, just west of Chassagne-Montrachet. Des Dents de Chien (literally "Deeth of the Dog"). This vineyard is Saint-Aubin's most famous and is literally half a mile from Chassagne-Montrachet Vergers (next wine). This will be an interesting comparison. This vineyard is capable of producing wine that can age and improve in the bottle for decades.
William Kelly, Wine Advocate's wine critic for Burgundy, says "What I've seen in the vineyards and what I tasted in the cellar leads me to believe that this is an address in the ascendant."
Importer Notes
"The most prized terroir of Saint-Aubin, Les Murgers sits at the highest point of the appellation on a solid limestone plateau with an impregnable view of the Côte d’Or below. Situated above En Remilly with south to southeast exposure, it lies between twenty and sixty meters directly above Chevalier-Montrachet. Picture a brighter, higher-altitude version of this storied grand cru! A firm nose leads to a beautiful richness on the palate, then a finish with a persistent and mighty stony grip. The longest ager of the Larue stable, this is a real thoroughbred that you should classify along with the great premiers crus of Chassagne, Puligny, and Meursault."
92+ Pts Wine Advocate / William Kelly (2020 review)
Unwinding in the glass with aromas of pear, citrus oil and green apple mingled with white flowers and wet stones, the 2020 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Murgers des Dents de Chien is medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with lively acids, chalky extract and a seamless profile, concluding with a penetrating finish. As I wrote last year, this cuvée derives from one hectare of holdings—some dating back to the 1950s-1960s, some younger—and sees a longer élevage than the domaine's other Saint-Aubin bottlings.
