dark red; the bouquet shows a forward air of crushed raspberry, a hint of stewed in the fruit, a little freedom, space in it. The palate holds soft red fruit content, builds tannins that are a bit furry, shows a late floral note, light grain grip on the close. It’s a but under restraint, but the fruit comes back OK at the end. “It’s a fresh, elegant St Jo vintage,” Lionel Faury. 2034-36 Nov 2024

Technicals: 100% Syrah (late 1970s-early 2000s) from decomposed granite soils at Chavanay, notably La Ribaudy, Le Blanchard, Boissey, Peyrolland, all close together, 30-75% destemmed (75-80% destemmed until 2015), wild yeasts, 3-week concrete vat vinification, pumping overs, cap punching by leg work, aged 1-year & older 600-litre oak casks 15-18 months (part aged large 30 hl barrels until early 2010s), unfined, unfiltered, called Hedonism until 2020, Les Ribaudes since 2020, 25,000-30,000 b
