Goodfellow Chardonnay Tsai Vineyard 2021
$47.99 on 6+ bottles (used code: 6saves2)
93 pts Dunnuck/Fricke:
The medium golden 2021 Chardonnay Tsai Vineyard is ripe with forward aromatics of preserved Meyer lemon, toasted spice, pineapple rind, and gunflint. Medium-bodied and silky on the palate, it has great balanced energy as well as a long, clean finish, with notes of lemon custard on the back palate. Drink 2024-2030.
92 pts Wine Advocate
Drink Date: 2025 - 2035
The 2021 Chardonnay Tsai Vineyard is a new wine from Goodfellow, crafted without new oak. It has deep aromas of peach, quince, chamomile, beeswax and almonds. The medium-bodied palate has a silky texture and highly concentrated layers of nutty, perfumed fruit. Its generosity is balanced by fireworks of fresh acidity, and it has a long, honeyed finish. Only 90 cases were made.
Our Tasting Note
An American Chassagne? Saline and crushed rock aromatics, with notes of white peaches, yellow plums, caraway, sea spray, and subtle toasty notes of hazelnut and vanilla from the well integrated oak. The palate is medium bodied, med/med+ acidity, pronounced and delineated flavors lead into a long, fresh, impressive finish. Outstanding!
12.7% ABV Cooperage was neutral 800L foudre. Fermentations are cool and slow, generally finishing out primary between three and six months. The wine was left on the lees for the full 19 months, with only brief stirring at the end of fermentation.
The Tsai Family’s vineyard is tucked into the foothills of Oregon’s Coast Range, in the north-western section of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. A rarity in Yamhill-Carton, soils are volcanic, and the vineyard is surrounded with mixed forest, timber plantings, and orchard, isolated and quite a bit cooler than other sites in the AVA.
