Walter Scott La Combe Verte Chardonnay 2024

Walter Scott La Combe Verte Chardonnay 2024

Notes from producer:
We passionately believe in Willamette Valley Chardonnay. This noble grape has the ability to capture the essence of our region’s rich geological tapestry, seamlessly intertwining terroir with winemaking technique. With thoughtful farming and intentional cellar practices, we allow Chardonnay to express its incredible potential, just as Pinot noir does.

Translating to 'The Green Fault' or 'The Green Valley,' La Combe Verte pays homage to the lush landscapes of the Willamette Valley and our cherished friends at Patricia Green Cellars, the incubator for the fledgeling Walter Scott first vintage.

The 2024 La Combe Verte Chardonnay is a thoughtful blend, drawing from the elegance of volcanic Eola-Amity Hills Chardonnay, the intensity of old vines at Hyland Vineyard, and the powerful marine sedimentary character of Freedom Hill.

Blending our Chardonnay is where winemaking becomes art, resulting in a wine of remarkable density and precision. The palate opens with vibrant notes of white peach and tangerine, gradually revealing layers of texture intertwined with green apple and summer honeysuckle. Hints of hazelnut add dimension to the evolving mineral and saline qualities that gracefully evolve in the finish.

Vineyard Notes:
We believe in Willamette Valley Chardonnay. This classic variety has an important place in our region and at Walter Scott, not in the replication of other inspirational regions, but in its own distinctive style, with its own compelling voice. Chardonnay is a grape which has the ability to translate our unique geology in the same way Pinot noir does. Through thoughtful farming and cellar practices, we strive to allow Chardonnay to reach its powerful Willamette Valley potential. Our approach to Chardonnay pays attention to texture and structure, translating site and vintage. Vineyards: - Freedom Hill Vineyard - Hyland Vineyard - Koosah Vineyard - Sojeau Vineyard - Witness Tree Vineyard

Production Notes:
The La Combe Verte is fermented with 100% ambient yeast and full malolactic conversion in large barrels with very little bâtonnage. The wine is lightly fined and filtered prior to bottling to brighten aromatics and give us a polished finish.
