Proprieta Sperino Lessona 2019
95 points Vinous Media
The 2019 Lessona sweeps across the palate with powerful dark-toned fruit and layers of intensity that continue to build over time. This dramatic, imposing Lessona packs a substantial punch. More importantly, it shows what is possible in the appellation. I would cellar this for another year or two. There's a lot of wine here.
Technical Notes
- Grape Variety: 100% Nebbiolo
- Appellation: Lessona DOC, Piedmont, Italy
- Vineyard: Steep south-facing slopes on calcareous and porphyritic soils
- Vine Age: 40–60 years
- Farming: Organic practices; hand-harvested, low yields to maximize concentration
- Vinification: Traditional fermentation with native yeasts in stainless steel; long maceration of 20–25 days; aged 24 months in large Slovenian oak casks, followed by additional bottle aging before release
- Alcohol: ~13% ABV
