Sadie Family Twiswind 2024

Sadie Family Twiswind 2024

93 points Vinous Media

The 2024 Twiswind is the second debut OVS, a 12-vintage field blend including Cinsault, Palomino, Grillo, Assyrtiko, Clairette, Sémillon and others. The name means "…to argue with the wind," which explains the terroir! It is cohesive and focused, with lemon verbena and vervain tea that unfold in the glass. The palate is very well balanced, with a fine bead of acidity, lightly spiced with touches of ginger and orange rind towards the persistent, bone-dry finish. A very promising debut.

TK Notes: Twiswind, meaning “argue with the wind,” is a co-planted white vineyard exposed to constant wind on the southwest slope of the Paardeberg. It includes Vermentino, Piquepoul, Marsanne, Grillo, Clairette Blanche, Cinsault Blanc, and more. Harvested in two stages and fermented in both old wood and concrete, the wine is aged for 12 months on the lees. The 2024 debut vintage offers aromatics of lime zest, Granny Smith apple, and peach skin. The palate is defined by texture, firm acidity, and structural tension — a serious, age-worthy white meant to adapt to the future.

Producer Notes: This maiden 2024 Twiswind vintage displays limey and zesty dynamics with fresh Granny Smith apple and peach skin aromas. The intense palate and textural aspects somehow dwarf the aromatics, as the wine is built up from the structural mouthfeel and tension of tannins. The acidity is firm, and this wine needs time
