Stefano Occhetti Roero Riserva 2022

Stefano Occhetti Roero Riserva 2022

Our Tasting Note (2021 vintage)
Med+ ruby red core, more transparent at the edges. Over 5 hours this wine changed moderately but is in great "young” Nebbiolo drinking territory, I will not be opening more for a few more years.  The moderately tight med+ nose tells you right away I am for the future, but I will give you a nice preview at the moment. Crushed red to dark red cherry, raspberry, and currants, licorice and anise spice, blood orange peels, tar and roses. Med+ bodied, med+ youthful, ripe and structured tannins, med/med+ acidity. The med+ flavor intensity again is holding back as the wine is pretty tightly layered on the palate. This has a long, persistent, and structured finish. Excellent, more buttoned up than the rambunctious (2022) Sanche.

Grape:
 100% Nebbiolo
Vineyard:
Sanche is a steep, terraced, two-hectare cru of 70-year-old vines planted at 300m asl in very sandy soils, some clay blends in too. It’s the heart of this farm. The field has to be worked by hand. No tractor could safely traverse it.
Maturation:
36 months in used 225 & 500L French oak barrels (minimum of 3 years used for each). No filtration or fining at bottling.
Winemaking:
Fermented with indigenous yeasts with a pied de cuvée in oak vats with a submerged cap for fermentation, about 35 days.
Maturation:
36 months in used 225 & 500L used French oak barrels (minimum of 3 years used for each). No filtration or fining at bottling.
Production:
  Only 54 cases produced
