Domaine Simon Blanchard Au Champ de la Fenetre 2020
The 2020 Domaine Simon Blanchard Au Champ de la Fenetre is a captivating wine that showcases the unique terroir of its vineyard. With tasting notes of dark cherry, plum, mocha, licorice, and dried herbs, this wine offers a rich and nuanced palate experience. Clean mineral notes extend the mid-palate into a long, effortless finish, making it an excellent choice for connoisseurs and casual wine enthusiasts alike. Floral tones with pomegranate and a juicy mix of black, red, and blue bramble fruit elements add to its intense aromatics and lively energy.
Composition: Predominantly Merlot, with smaller percentages of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Vine age varies with a focus on older vines, planted in limestone and clay soils.
Winemaking: Fermentation with whole bunches to enhance the texture and complexity.
Aging: Aged in French oak barrels for 12-18 months, depending on the specific conditions of the vintage.
Wine Critic Reviews
Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider (91): Smoke, spice, espresso, licorice and plums are all over the place here on the nose and palate. Deeply colored, the wine is round, plush, ripe, elegant and packed with sweet, ripe black cherries and plums. Give it just a few years in the cellar and it will be even better. The wine is made from 100% old Merlot vines that are close to 35 years of age. Simon Blanchard is a long-time member of the Stephane Derenoncourt team.
Wine Maniacs (94): As its sister cuvee, whole bunch has been introduced as well. Other than the mineral expression of the Guitard, the wine is focusing on the fruit core. The palate feel is rich and thick with great density. A fruity wine with complexity!
