Domaine du Pas de l’Escalette "Ze Cinsault" Rouge 2023 1.5L
Here we see the grape get amplified through the terroir as the Cinsault character shines in this deeper, more pronounced, though velvety textured red wine. Sensual dark red fruit, garrigue, and sweet violets on the nose give a lot of pleasure.
Tasting Note: A deep purple-red robe, vibrant red edges. A pronounced and sensual nose is as complex as it is generous with dark red cherry and raspberry fruit, sweet violet and rose petals, the subtle garrigue here is fine and delicate, giving the fruit and florals the center stage. The palate is med/med+ bodied, with med/med+ tannins and a subtle, sensual texture, the elegant but pronounced palate velvety and plush with a long finish! Excellent here too!
Variety: 100% Cinsault
Vineyard: 45-80 year-old vines planted at 300-350 meters (985-1,200 feet)
Appellation: IGP Pays de l'Herault
Soil: Limestone and clay
Viticulture: certified organic FR-BIO-01 and certified Biodynamic by Biodyvin
Vinification: Destemmed. Traditional vinification in steel with indigenous yeasts. Malolactic fermentation while aging for 1 year in wooden vats.
Importer: This wine is from a single old parcel of Cinsault that is planted in the valley of Lauroux. Last summer I visited Delphine’s cousin in the village of Assignan. Julien and Delphine stopped by for dinner, with an eclectic mix of French friends. It became a late night. This wine was the star of the evening for me. Subtle, it didn’t overwhelm any foods, and didn’t demand attention. But it was the bottle people reached for the most. (I align 100% with this wine's description here - TK)
