Marisa Cuomo Furore Bianco Costa d'Amalfi 2024
Grape varieties: 60% Falanghina and 40% Biancolella
Zone of origin: Furore and neighboring municipalities
Exposure and altitude: Coastal terraces set 200/550 metres above sea level with south/south-westerly exposure
Soil composition: Dolomitic-limestone rock
Cultivation system: Pergola and/or atypical radial, espalier
Plant density: 5000-7000 vines per hectare
Grape harvest yield per hectare: Approx. 8 tons per hectare (1.5 kg per plant)
Harvesting time: First ten days of October. Hand-picked.
Vinification technique: The hand-picked grapes are brought into the cellar whole and, after being destemmed and crushed they undergo soft pressing. The free-run must, which undergoes cold static fining and is inoculated with selected yeasts, ferments at a temperature of approx. 15°C for about 20/30 days
Maturing technique and duration prior to bottling: 4 months in stainless steel tanks
For comparison the 2018 and 2017, 2024 has not yet been rated but should fall in line as a classic vintage as it was not a drought or heat spike growing season:
91 pts Vinous Media (Ian d'Agata)
Luminous straw-yellow. Fresh pear and ripe yellow apple plus hints of chlorophyll and chamomile on the nose. Clean and saline, offering lime and orchard fruit in the mouth. The finish is very strong, not to mention long. A blend of Biancolella and Falanghina. - By Ian D'Agata on September 2019
94 pts Vinous Media (Ian d'Agata)
Luminous medium-deep golden-tinged yellow. Enticing aromas of fresh pear and apple, complicated by hints of orange peel and minty herbs. Focused and energetic on the palate, offering flavors similar to the aromas and a steely texture that lingers nicely on the long, vibrant back end. Much fresher and less ripe than some recent vintages of Fiorduva that were almost too creamy and sweet for what should be a classically dry white wine. - By Ian D'Agata on September 2019
