Marisa Cuomo Furore Rosso Costa d'Amalfi Riserva 2021
94 pts Wine Advocate (For the 2018, 2020 has not yet been rated)
A blend of equal parts Aglianico and Piedirosso, the Marisa Cuomo 2018 Costa d'Amalfi Furore Rosso Riserva marks one of two important growing sites for this enterprising estate. They are Furore and Ravello. Furore is further west on the Sorrentine Peninsula, and there is an abandoned fishing village stuffed at the bottom of a tiny inlet in the folds of the cliffs that come crashing down to the coast. (I suggest you Google a picture of "Furore, Italy" if you haven't seen it in person). Vineyards for this wine are located high above the abandoned village in a direct vertical line 550 meters above sea level. With 9,100 bottles made, this oak-aged red wine is elegant and tightly coiled with black berry fruit, blue flower, wild rose, grilled rosemary and crushed limestone rock. The mouthfeel is not quite full-bodied, and there is enough latitude and freshness here to pair with a grilled salmon or tuna steak. Drink Date: 2022 – 2030. Reviewed by Monica Larner Oct 06, 2022
There is genius in these wines from Marisa Cuomo. When you feel so emotionally connected to the beauty of a place, such as the Amalfi Coast, and a wine makes you vividly remember that place even if you are far away, well, that's magic. My best vacation memories are jogged every time I taste these beautiful wines, especially the white Costa d'Amalfi Furore Bianco Fiorduva. It transports me to smells of sea breeze, salty fizz, sweet suntanning lotion and the delicious aromas of a Mediterranean kitchen cooking with perfumed basil, Amalfi lemons and vine-fresh tomatoes. These wines are impeccably made (with the talented Luigi Moio consulting), and they manage incredible balance with freshness, salinity and soft texture. The vines are planted (many on original rootstock) in pergolas on steep terraces high up on the dolomitic limestone cliffs that overlook the Amalfi Coast. Andrea Ferraioli and Marisa Cuomo are building a new winery that should be finished in June 2023. I hope they keep the romantic old cellar cave that is dug deep into the rocky cliffs.
